The Edmonton Oilers defeated the New York Islanders 4-1 in Game 5 of the 1984 Stanley Cup Finals to win their first Stanley Cup championship.

The Oilers were led by Wayne Gretzky, who had two goals and two assists in the game. Mark Messier and Kevin Lowe also scored for Edmonton.

The Islanders were led by Mike Bossy, who scored the only goal for New York.

The Oilers won the series 4-1, and Gretzky was awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy as the most valuable player of the playoffs.
